To many people accountancy can seem boring.
They see the suits and the numbers and not a lot else, but maybe it deosn't have to be boring, if it could make a difference to your business or your personal finances then wouldn't that be more interesting?
Becoming a Chartered Accountant gave me one one of the best business qualifications available. I was trained to be a business advisor not just a bean counter, to try and understand the big picture, while not losing sight of the detail.
In the twenty years since then I have worked with over 200 individual businesses, giving me a range of practical experience to support my training.
If I can use accountancy to help a client understand their business better, by asking the right questions about a business or by putting better information in the hands of the directors, then I believe I can make a difference to that business. That doesn't seem so boring to me.
When I started Focus Accounting in 2007 I wanted it to represent these ideals in whatever we did.
